September 2026 marks the beginning of something really special.
We’re delighted to announce that the Consent for Approach for Research (C4AR) Database is now live – and if you’re here as one of the first people to join us, you’re already doing something incredible. You’re helping us build something from the very beginning: a new national community of people living with kidney disease who want to hear about research and have the opportunity to get involved.
If you’ve found us and are still thinking about joining, we’d love to have you with us. Every person who joins helps us build a bigger, stronger and more representative community.
C4AR has been created with patients, for patients. It provides a way for people living with kidney disease to hear about research opportunities that may be relevant to them, making it easier to find out what research is happening and decide whether they would like to take part.
We’re starting with a soft launch, introducing C4AR to patients at the end of the National Kidney Patient Survey 2026 (formerly known as the PREM). The survey runs from 14 September to 9 November 2026 and gives us a fantastic opportunity to begin reaching people receiving kidney care through secondary care services across the UK.
But this is just the start.
There are potentially more than 70,000 people across the UK under the care of a hospital kidney team who could become part of C4AR. Imagine what it could mean if all those people had the opportunity to be heard, to hear about research and to have a say in the future of kidney care.
One voice can make a difference, 70,000 could change the future!
And that’s why we need people to make C4AR work. The more people who join, the stronger and more representative that collective voice becomes. Every person who signs up helps us build something that can make a real difference - connecting patients with research and helping ensure that people living with kidney disease can share their experience and help researchers understand what matters most, to them.
So, to our very first C4AR members: welcome - and thank you. You’re helping us get this off the ground, and we couldn’t do it without you.
We’ll be launching C4AR more widely in early 2027, working with kidney charities, patient organisations, social media and other partners to spread the word and reach as many people across the UK as possible.
